MORNING POEMS. Poet Laureate Gladys Henderson has assembled an outstanding lineup of poets that will be reading "Morning Poems for Families" at Indian Island County Park, Riverhead, New York. Bring your lawn chair, perhaps a lunch or picnic basket, poems for the open mic, and enjoy a fabulous summer day with all of us. No charge to enter the park that day, just tell the Park employees you are there for the poetry reading. Reading "Morning Poems for Families" that day is this fine lineup of poets: Carmen Bugan, Barbara Ann Branca, Maggie Bloomfield, Kathaleen Donnelly, Robert Hayes, Terri Muuss, Matt Pasca, Marlene Patti, Barbara Southard, Robert Savino, Jack Zaffos. Indian Island County Park is known for its rustic beauty. We will be located at the point, in the picnic area, that overlooks the confluence of the Peconic River and Long Island Sound. Bring your bathing suit, you can wade, but not swim because there no lifeguards, the water is refreshing. Fishing is also permitted, have great hiking trails and nice picnic areas.

Long Island Authors Group www.longislandauthorsgroup.org will hold the second in a series of Long Island Book Fairs for 2012 at Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay, New York.

Featured are works by sixteen notable Long Island authors writing in fiction and non-fiction Adult, Young Adult, Children's Books and Poetry. The authors will be selling and signing books, and guests are invited to chat with them about their books and writing careers. The rain or shine event is Sunday, May 20, Noon until 4PM in Periwinkles Garden Cafe in the Historic Hay Barn on the breathtaking grounds of the former Coe estate.

Planting Fields, one of the few remaining Gold Coast estates on Long Island's North Shore, was the estate of insurance magnate William Robertson Coe and Standard Oil heiress Mai Rogers Coe. It retains its original 409 acres as well as its historic buildings and landscape. Rolling lawns, formal gardens, hiking trails and specimen plantings, as well as the Camellia Greenhouse and the Main Greenhouse, with its unique seasonal displays, are a treat for visitors.

Performance Poetry by the Bards of the New Age

The Bards Initiative is an organization dedicated to connecting poetry communities, while promoting the writing and performance of poetry. A multi-purpose poetry project, the Initiative provides avenues for poets to share their work and encourages the use of poetry for social change.

In addition, the Initiative aims to make use of modern technologies to help spread, encourage and inspire poetry particularly in the younger generations. It is the core belief of the Bards Initiative that poetry is the voice of the people and can be used to help create a sense of sharing and community.
